Aludur®
Grid Bar Supports

Features and Benefits
|
1. |
Aludur® Grid Bars have three to four times greater mechanical
strength than the best chemical porcelain or refractory material. This
exceptional strength permits the use of thinner bars and greater
center-to-center spacing. |
|
2. |
Aludur® Grid Bars have excellent corrosion resistance at elevated
temperatures well beyond the 250°F limit for chemical porcelain. However,
even Aludur® Grid Bars should not be subjected to an environment of live
steam for an extended period of time. |
|
3. |
Aludur® Grid Bars are highly resistant to thermal shock. |
|
4. |
Aludur® Grid Bars are ideal for use as primary support systems
in sulphuric acid absorbers, driers, coolers and other highly corrosive
applications in large diameter towers. |
|
5. |
Aludur® Grid Bars may be used for stacked or dumped packing. When
used as dumped packing, a secondary support of grid block or cross-partition
rings must be installed on top of the Aludur® Grid Bar primary support. |

Although
limited to a maximum individual bar length of 84 inches, Aludur® Grid Bars may
be used in towers of unlimited diameter through the use of midspans.
Aludur® Grid Bar supports are normally designed for one of two
standard-type installations:
|
1. |
Utilising bars designed for installation on 6"[150mm]
centres used with 6"[150mm] diameter rings. |
|
2. |
Using 8"[200mm] centres for use with the 8"[200mm]
Norton Grid Blocks. Other custom-designed systems can be supplied for any
center-to-center spacing that may be required. |
Material
High strength
alumina ceramic.
Advantages over Conventional Secondary Support System using
Cross-Partition Rings:
|
· |
Increased free space |
|
· |
33% fewer grid bars and 25% fewer secondary supports (grid
blocks) required resulting in a reduction in material and freight costs, and
reduced setting time. |
|
· |
Two-inch saddles can be dumped directly on the grid block
without a secondary layer of 4"[100mm] cross-partition rings. |
