Munters Mist Eliminators

The Experts in Mist Eliminator Technologies

As far back as 1966 Munters developed their sophisticated and highly efficient mist eliminator profiles. These designs are based around a sinusoidal wave shape to which a hook section is attached to enhance its performance. Since that time, this type of mist eliminator, for use in horizontal gas flows, has been specified and installed around the world under the "Euroform" name. It has become the industry standard for mist elimination in the pulp and paper industry in USA, Canada and Scandinavia, sugar evaporators in the UK, Belgium and France, gas cleaning towers in Europe or Japan and process gas handling in Germany, Australia or Malaysia. When high performance is crucial, our "Vane type systems with hooks" are specified and installed.

Following this success, Munters also developed mist eliminators for vertical gas flow. Their DV 270, since 1970 their standard systems for gas scrubbing systems, has been adopted as the basic design concept for most other "two-pass eliminators".

To help you evaluate the performance of various mist eliminator designs with regard to limit drop sizes - even for competitors designs - advice can be offered. The calculations or physical modelling can be provided for various operating conditions and different vane designs.

Based on Munters continuous research and development and their long-term experience in mist elimination technologies, they have evolved a wide range of mist eliminator types, each with specific modifications to suit individual application requirements.

How do Munters Euroform mist eliminators function?

Munters Euroform mist eliminators are vane type systems.

The specially designed vanes form small channels with right angle gas paths when assembled together into eliminator modules.

The sharp changes in direction enforced on the gas stream in such a channel, produce "inertial forces" that effect the entrained droplets. The droplets are thrown out of the gas stream by these inertial forces and impact against the outer wall of the channel, forming a liquid film on the channel wall. This film then drains by gravity to a collection sump or back into the vessel.

To obtain optimum efficiency, complete drainage of eliminated liquid, even at high gas velocity and low-pressure drop, is necessary. Only a sophisticated, "high tech" vane design (e.g. with sinusoidal-shape and hooks) can provide this.

Where are mist eliminators employed?

In most chemical or petrochemical applications, process gas streams contain various droplets. They are either caused by condensation, e.g. after cooling processes, generated by liquid injection in absorption or gas scrubbing processes; or by carry-over in evaporator processes.

To eliminate the predominantly very small droplets inherent in these processes, highly efficient mist eliminator systems are crucially important. They will help to:

1 Optimise chemical and petrochemical processes by elimination of undesirable liquids.
1 Prevent pollution of condensates after evaporator stations.

1 Recover valuable liquid droplets in recycling processes.

1 Restrict emissions from pollution control processes like scrubber systems, flue gas desulphurisation installations.

1 Prevent corrosion and erosion of gas turbines, air inlets and compressor stations.

For all these applications Munters Euroform vane type separators are used and acknowledged as "state of the art" technologies.

What can Munters Euroform provide?

For all important applications Munters offer will be based on a study of plant or process requirements and a detailed specific engineering proposal produced.

For existing towers or casings Munters Euroform can supply a complete mist eliminator package consisting of the vanes assembled into a suitable cassette or frame, ready for installation.
Our manufacturing capabilities also include the supply of complete separator systems including the housing, casing or vessel, for flange to flange connections to ductwork or pipelines.

For common applications and conditions we supply standardised packages and designs.

Munters Euroform offers a broad range of materials, including various plastic types like PVC, polypropylene, PVDF, Ryton and Ultem, plus metals such as aluminium, carbon steel and high grade materials like Monel and Incoloy or other exotic alloys.
